| Welcome to Moorwax Candle Makers
Influenced by natural textures and colours, contemporary ceramic glazes and other visual stimulations, the candlemaker: Chris Jones offers an affordable piece of 'living art' each example of which is unique. As well as decorative candles, Chris produces a wide range of outdoor, anti-midge candles, commemorative candles for special occasions, wedding candles, classic church style candles, and candles made to order to match peoples own interior colour schemes. Because of the very high quality of the waxes and wicks used, Moorwax candles are very long lasting and clean burning , representing excellent value for money, and are very different to mass produced factory made candles. Prices range from GBP £3.00 to £40.00 Chris Jones learnt to make candles in 1971 while attending teacher training college. He dabbled in the craft over the years but when he was made redundant from his job in 1992 he looked around for a new occupation. Having been working in publishing for 15 years he wanted to stay in the book business, and started dealing in second hand books. At book fairs he introduced a few candles on his stand, and found that the candles were selling better than the books! Experimenting with different specialist waxes with the help of one of his original tutors in candlemaking, he came up with a technique for decorating candles which broadened the possibilities of what could be made. Because of the unique decorative methods used, Moorwax are able to offer a bespoke service matching colour schemes, textiles and textures. An ever increasing side of the business is related to weddings, offering a service matching bride's dresses, flowers and table decorations for the reception and 'favours' for the guests. Seasons influence the companies output: Christmas is of course traditionally associated with candles, and Moorwax produce both the traditional Christmas greens and reds and advent candles as well as more contemporary rich colours such as deep blues and burgundys brushed with gold or silver. In spring colours are bright, reflecting the reawakening of nature, and over the summer a wide range of outdooor anti- midge/mosquito candles that really work! Moorwax also produce a range of beeswax candle making kits which are simply packaged to keep prices and postage costs down. They include wick and easy-to-follow instuctions making them fun and safe to make for young and old alike. T: 01751 417233 F: 01751 417233 E: info@moorwax.co.uk |
